I did once read someone described the actual physical Raevnscroft piano itself not having huge bass. Even the embertone, which also lacks a little in this department, is better than the ravenscroft. You just never get thunderous bass out of it the way you can from Pianoteq, VSL, or the Garritan, for example. That's been my biggest caveat with the Ravenscroft and probably my number one reason for using any other VST at all, given how much I like it otherwise (I personally love the basic tone of the ravenscroft and don't find it hard or cold as some do the lowest velocity layers have a warm color change which I like).

The Ravenscroft is one of my all-time favorites - still the best playability in the mids and highs, and the best release sample behavior out there.īut I fully agree on the bass. I don't have much advice yet, but I can definitely echo your feelings. I've heard this sound great in demos, and I feel like there must still be room for improvement, but as it stands I've not playing this as much as I was hoping to, which is a shame because it has so many strong points. On the Effects tab, I've noticed there is an '8-band EQ' and 'Gain Matrix,' which I was hoping could help compensate for the underpowered bass, but I can't for the life of me figure out how either of them work. I've tried playing around with the 'tone' and 'timbre shift' parameters which improves the hardness a bit, but at the expense of clarity. I've had great results customizing the sound profile of other VSTs like the Garritan CFX, Noire and other NI instruments in Kontakt, but so far I'm finding the Ravenscroft/UVI workstation to be much tougher to crack, and was wondering if others have any suggestions or tips in this regard? There's also a slight hardness and lack of bloom to the basic sound that I've tried to compensate for via the settings, but without much success. I have to apply an unnatural amount of pressure to the lower notes to cut through the mix, and it causes the whole performance to sound rather forced and unnatural. Compared to other VSTs I have, I find it really difficult to make the bass line project in a way that sounds organic. On the negative side, the lower range of the keyboard feels underpowered to me in relation to the mid and upper range. The overall playability is top-notch, and I love the una corda samples and the way you can custom mix different mic perspectives. One the plus side, the tonal clarity and sense of realism is amazing, especially in mid and upper range. After having spent a few weeks playing around with it there is a lot I like, however it also has some (for me) rather glaring weaknesses that I'm finding difficult to deal with.

I took advantage of this past season's holiday sales to pick up the Ravenscroft 275 after being curious about it for a while.
